SMALL ANIMALS

Appointments
Calling ahead to schedule an appointment is recommended, as our doctors do make farm calls. Doing so, you can ensure that we have a veterinarian in the office at the time of your appointment. One of our staff members will gladly assist you in making an appointment, and will try to accommodate all requests to the best of our ability. If you need to cancel/reschedule your appointment, kindly give us ~24 hours notice.

Drop Off Appointments
To better service owners with busy schedules, we offer convenient drop off appointments. Owners are able to make an appointment to drop off their pet at the clinic as early as 8:00 am, and pick up the pet before closing at 5:00 pm.  Hillsboro Advanced Veterinary Care will perform all requested treatments while your pet is in our care. Drop off pets need to be current on all vaccines, unless they are being admitted for them. Hillsboro Advanced Veterinary Care is a flea free clinic. If a pet enters the clinic with fleas, he/she will be treated at the owner’s expense.

Emergency and Urgent Care
Here at Hillsboro, we offer 24 hour emergency care service. This service is designed for immediate veterinary attention after hours, should a true medical emergency arise. We also offer urgent care when the condition is not life threatening, but the pet needs medical attention. If this is the case, our staff will work to squeeze you in between scheduled appointments. Please call the office before arriving to allow our staff to accommodate your pet’s needs.

Wellness Exams & Vaccinations
Yearly examinations and annual vaccines are recommended for all small animals. For canines, we recommend yearly vaccinations against rabies and distemper/parvovirus/leptospirosis. Bordetella is strongly encouraged for canines that frequently come into contact with other dogs, such as those who go to a groomer or boarding kennel. Dogs also need to be tested yearly for heartworms and internal parasites. Our veterinarians recommend monthly prevention against heartworms in addition to internal and external parasites. For felines, we recommend vaccinations against rabies, feline distemper, and feline leukemia. Depending on how much exposure your cat has to the outdoors, we may also recommend intestinal parasite screenings.

Some of our surgical procedures include, but are not limited to; spays, neuters, feline de-claws, lumpectomy, exploratory surgery, caesarians, surgical laser, and bone fracture repairs. Dr. Stacey is experienced in anterior cruciate ligament repairs and has performed numerous successful procedures. Small animal surgeries and dental procedures are preformed Monday-Friday. Patients should arrive at our clinic between 8:00-8:30am the morning of surgery and can be picked up between 4:00-5:00pm the same day. An overnight stay is standard with feline de-claws and more invasive surgeries. These patients may be picked up any time the following day. Please remember to withhold food and water after midnight the night before surgery. This is important to ensure that there will be no vomiting while under sedation.

Ultrasound/Radiology
Dr. Stacey is experienced in performing ultrasounds. This is a non-invasive technology that uses sound waves to painlessly examine specific internal organs. Ultrasounds are also used to detect pregnancy in animals after 35 days of gestation. At Hillsboro, we ultrasound both large and small animals. We also have a portable ultrasound machine that our veterinarians take out on farm calls. Radiology is another quality diagnostic tool we use to diagnose muscular-skeletal, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, reproductive and urinary system problems and diseases.

Dental Procedures
Healthy teeth are very important to your pet’s overall health.  Pets that have problems with their teeth and gums are prone to suffer serious heart, liver and kidney problems as they age.  Hillsboro Advanced Veterinary Care offers dental services that include teeth cleaning, polishing and surgical extractions.  All geriatric patients are carefully screened for safety and anesthetics are specifically tailored to their needs.
