Our veterinary team provides general veterinary care, surgery, and dentistry for dogs, cats, exotics and more. We recommend that all small animal pets receive annual examinations. During these examinations, we will also carefully assess the overall health of your pet and make recommendations.

For more advanced care and pets with conditions, we have in-house abilities to perform blood work, x-rays, ultrasound, and other laboratory tests. We look forward to seeing you and your pets. Please don’t hesitate to call us with any questions or to schedule an appointment.

Wellness Exams & Vaccinations

Yearly examinations and annual vaccines are recommended for all small animals. For canines, we recommend yearly vaccinations against rabies and distemper/parvovirus/leptospirosis. Bordetella is strongly encouraged for canines that frequently come into contact with other dogs, such as those who go to a groomer or boarding kennel. Dogs also need to be tested yearly for heartworms and internal parasites. Our veterinarians recommend monthly prevention against heartworms in addition to internal and external parasites. For felines, we recommend vaccinations against rabies, feline distemper, and feline leukemia. Depending on how much exposure your cat has to the outdoors, we may also recommend intestinal parasite screenings.

Our doctors are experienced in anterior cruciate ligament repairs and has performed numerous successful procedures. Small animal surgeries and dental procedures are preformed Monday-Friday. Patients should arrive at our clinic between 8:00-8:30am the morning of surgery and can be picked up between 4:00-5:00pm the same day. An overnight stay is standard with feline de-claws and more invasive surgeries. These patients may be picked up any time the following day. Please remember to withhold food and water after midnight the night before surgery. This is important to ensure that there will be no vomiting while under sedation.

Cold Laser Therapy

The Drug-Free, Surgery Free Solution

Hillsboro Advanced Veterinary Care offers Class IV Laser therapy that delivers specific red and near-infrared wavelengths of laser light to induce a therapeutic effect within the body. These include increased circulation, decreased swelling, reduction of pain, and enhanced tissue repair. Some conditions that can be helped with use of cold laser therapy include chronic ear infections, musculoskeletal diseases, orthopedic procedures, and animals with chronic back pain.

There is no patient sedation or restraint required and the experience is usually pleasant and comforting to them. Each treatment lasts around 1-4 minutes, but the length and frequency of treatments vary with your pet’s condition. Even though improvement may be seen after the first visit, most patients require several treatments for the greatest benefit, and we recommend a multi-visit treatment plan. Your veterinarian will recommend a treatment plan specific to your pet’s conditions.

Ultrasound/Radiology

Our doctors are experienced in performing ultrasounds. This is a non-invasive technology that uses sound waves to painlessly examine specific internal organs. Ultrasounds are also used to detect pregnancy in animals after 35 days of gestation. At Hillsboro, we ultrasound small animals, including exotics. Radiology is another quality diagnostic tool we use to diagnose muscular-skeletal, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, reproductive, and urinary system problems, and diseases.
